Get involved with the Career Center and develop a number of transferable skills that can be applied not only to a student organization, but also to the workplace. Volunteer to help at the Career Center's career fairs! Service includes:
• Employer Support and Hospitality – Greet employers at registration tables and assist them with locating their table, or help them with various tasks during the fair. This is a great opportunity to get one-on-one time with employers, while gaining customer service skills.
• Student Support – Greet students during check-in, answer logistical questions such as where employers are located by using our Career Center app, distribute handouts, or help them print their resumes. Learn how to work well with, and relate to, different types of individuals while building teamwork and communication skills.
• Logistics – Help set-up and take-down fairs; assist employers, students and staff throughout the fair. This is an opportunity to build leadership skills and strengthen your professional network.
• Marketing – Chalk the quad, or post about fairs on your Registered Student Organization's or the Career Center's social media pages (see links in page footer). Ask to speak to your RSO, faculty and peers during classes with a 5-minute pitch about the fairs. This is a great way to develop or enhance current marketing and public relations skills.
By volunteering at career fairs Registered Student Organizations will get added exposure to employers attending the events, and earn service hours for their members. Personally, volunteers will gain professional development experience and the transferable skills that employers seek in candidates. Best of all, members who volunteer will network with employers before and during the fair, which may possibly lead to an internship or job opportunity.
