Interviewing

Prepare for the interview

  • Make an appointment with your career advisor to discuss the interview process.
  • Research the organization by visiting their websites and social media pages to learn about the company's products and services, audience and customers, and recent news.
  • Develop your 30-second commercial, to answer the question, "tell me about yourself." Visit page 18 of the Career Resource Guide.
  • Identify your answers to commonly asked questions. Flip to page 27 of the Career Resource Guide for sample questions.
  • Have questions ready to ask the employer. Visit page 31 of the Career Resource Guide for questions to ask an employer.
  • Review the ten rules of interviewing and interview tips located on page 26 of the Career Resource Guide.
  • Dress professionally to make a strong first impression. Flip to page 25 of the Career Resource Guide for professional dress tips, and page 21 for a review of professional etiquette.
  • Have a phone or online interview scheduled? Reserve a fully-equipped interview room in the Career Center and prepare for your interview by reviewing tips located on pages 28 - 29 of the Career Resource Guide.
